About Us

In the spring of 2004 Luckdragon’s Angels Pet Therapy Group started with five dedicated directors, including our first two therapy dog handlers.

President Lynn Marie Millette and her gentle lab/hound mix Shadow were Luckdragon’s Angels Pet Therapy Group’s first official therapy dog team. The next therapy dog team to be LAPTG certified was exuberant American Eskimo Dog, Pukak, handled by Anu Roots.

All of our original teams were (and many still are today), expertly mentored at the Veterans Administration Medical Center by Gretchen Gott, who also continues to serve as a director on the board of LAPTG.

Director Ross Norwood, along with her fellow board members, created our first therapy dog training class held in February 2007. It was a great success, and that instruction will be repeated with a new class beginning in the fall of 2008.

One graduate from our first class, Shelley Holmes, joined the board of directors of Luckdragon’s Angels in 2008.

Luckdragon's Angels visits are free of charge to the facilities that want our service. All of our handlers’ expenses, such as gas for our cars and insurance, are assumed by the volunteers themselves. Those costs are not financially reimbursed by the clients we visit or Luckdragon’s Angels Pet Therapy Group.

We are governed by a volunteer board of directors, funded by private donations and assisted by corporate sponsorships.

Luckdragon's Angels provides on the job instruction for rookie teams by mentoring with one of our experienced handlers. This personal attention is critical to the success of our new volunteers.

Our membership dues are $25.00 per year, paid after passing our testing. This modest amount helps defray the cost of providing identification badges and other administrative operating expenses. Because Luckdragon's Angels is a Delta Society Pet Partner, we offer discounted insurance through Delta Society, at additional cost.

We have peer review, mentor newly certified teams, and act as a resource for team support. We advocate the benefits of professional therapy pet/handler teams’ visitation and facilitate placement of our certified teams within our community.

Luckdragon’s Angels Pet Therapy Group is also a proud affiliate group of READ (Reading Education Assistance Dogs).
